Top 10 Ultimate Mini Motorcycle Models To Suit All Budgets!


Minimoto or Midimoto, the mini motorcycle world is fun one to explore and anyone wanting to take motorcycle racing seriously should definitely own one of their own. Most of the world’s greatest racers were throwing mini motorcycles around corners before they could read, and many of them continue to push these little machines to the absolute limit as part of their regular training routine. Why? Because you can learn a lot more about riding a motorcycle on a 40cc mini motorcycle than you can from and all singing, all dancing, liter-class bike. But aren’t mini motorcycles illegal? Aren’t they the weapon of choice for neighborhood nuisances? They’re just cheap Chinese crap, right?

The answer to those questions are no, no, and no. Providing that your new mini motorcycle comes with a VIN number, then technically you could make it road legal if you wanted to – but why would you? But before drop two grand on a pocket sized racer, which one do you buy? You’ve heard the term “minimoto” before, but you’ve also heard “midimoto” being thrown around too. It’s not just a matter of miss pronunciation, oh no. You see, a minimoto is a smaller sized motorcycle generally better suited to junior riders. A midimoto is essentially the same thing, however, the component and frame dimensions are increased by around 10% to ma ke it better suited for adult riders, for superior comfort and handling. Cheap, cheerful, and most probably Chinese in origin, the Cagllari Daytona is a cool little 47cc two-stroke mini motorcycle which offers the bare bones and nothing more. It’s not particularly sophisticated, but that’s one of the strengths of this little no frills ride. Constructed from a lightweight durable alloy, the simple Cagllari Daytona boasts a cool 5 hp and performance that can match other mini motorcycles that command much higher price tags. One of the best features of the Daytona is that it comes with a higher ground clearance than a lot of the bikes on the market, allowing for some extreme cornering. Naturally, everything important is more or less adjustable such as the throttle and brakes, the speed regulator (since it can hit speeds of up to 47 mph…apparently), and foot p eg positioning. The adjustment can all be done with simple tooling, and it’s for that reason that we rate this one higher than similarly priced bargain pocket racers.

After a small price bump, the quality of mini motorcycles rises considerably…but the sales patter on a lot of websites that sell them needs a bit of work. The facts are off most of the time, with outrageous speed and pow er claims. That being said, the GP RS-R generally gets a pretty accurate write up. Powered by a four-stroke 40cc engine, most sellers think this little weapon produces 5.5 hp and can hit speeds of 50 mph, but that seems ambitious. However, we still like this little mover. It comes with a nice and long wheelbase for the bigger rider, a lightweight racing frame, treaded tires, and most importantly: a suspension system that kind of does its job – and it’s adjustable too, if you feel the need. If you’ve got a budget of round $400, then you can do a lot worse than the GP RS-R – and if you’ve got change, you can also invest in some choice performance parts upgrades to really get the most out of it.

One of the most prominent mini motorcycle manufacturers is an outfit called Blata, and their Elite 14 Series. The Elite 14 models are designed for real racing at a proper competitive level. Powered by an air cooled, 40cc, four-stroke engine that’s capable of producing 10.2 hp at 10,500 rpm that’s held in place with a lightweight tubular steel frame, and wrapped in sporty bodywork, the Elite 14 series is one of the best starter mini motorcycles for those looking to graduate into serious racing. Blata offer all kinds of customizable options and upgrades, so the Elite Series is definitely worth your time.

The Polini 910 Carena “S” class racers have the edge over the Blata Elite purely because they feel a little better to ride – and they’re two stroke, which is undoubtedly more fun than four. In terms of performance specifications, the Polini is actually behind the Blata. The 910 Carena S class offers three different versions: two air-cooled units with a power output of 4.2 hp or 6.2 hp, and a liquid-cooled offering that also promises 6.2 hp. These single-cylinder machines are wrapped in lightweight die cast frame, come with modern suspension, disc brakes and race inspired bodywork. Boasting a strong 36.69cc air-cooled engine that offers a maximum power output of 6.2 hp, this little pocket rocket is aimed towards racers who really want to squeeze the most out of their little engines. The major difference between the 911 and the 910 is the slightly more complex engine, which relies on a different carburetor and offers more tuning options. Disc brakes come as standard, and some models come with electric ignition – although most of the ones we’ve found online only advertise a good old fashioned pull start. The prices for these vary but they can be found second hand for much cheaper than we’ve listed it above.

While the riding experience is simple and easy, you don’t want to let anyone ride it…because they’re not cheap. This lightweight mini motorcycle features a lightweight chassis, a strong single cylinder two-stroke engine which promises 14 hp. Whether it delivers that or not is up to you to decide. That being said, the new versions of the Origami B1 are tried and tested by mini motorcycle racers and heavily relied upon. If you can grab a second hand one, try and get a newer model – the older ones (pre-2012) were known to suffer from leaks and the occasional bit of bad machining in the engine…The riding position is a little different to the others listed here and can take some getting used to, but given time you’ll learn to love it. Expensive, but totally worth it. The brand DM Telai isn’t as well known in the mini motorcycles scene as the likes of Blata and Polini, but their bikes are fantastic. For the DM Telai Midi GP racer, you might get plenty of bang for your buck. Coming in either 40cc or 50cc, these stunning little racers are capable of some incredible feats. With roughly 11 horsepower on tap, in a frame alloy frame that weighs less than 3 pounds, you’re looking at some serious racing potential. Hydraulic disc brakes, lightweight rims, racing rubber, and adjustable suspension, make this one of the most advanced minibike racers on the market. The looks alone are striking and sporty, as you’d expect, and for the price you really are buying a proper race machine. This is not a toy. As for the price, we’ve seen the DM Telai Midi GP listed online from $3,875 to as high as a frightening $5,500…so do your research bef ore you commit.

#02. The GRC Moto RRZ – $4,342.00

GRC Moto have been specializing in building top quality mini motorcycles since 1991 – and they really know their business – and one of the few mini motorcycle manufacturers that actually keeps an updated website! Coming with different engine options including water-cooled 40cc and 50cc units or an air-cooled 40cc, the RRZ is quite a versatile platf orm. The highest spec model offers the same kind of specs as you’d find on a 50cc two-stroke like on the models listed above, but the real strength in the GRC Moto lies in its handling. It comes with a flexible frame that gives a superior front end feel – which is unusual on a mini motorcycle considering that they rarely come with any front suspension. Weighing in at a mere 44 lbs in total, this lightweight rocket is the tool you need if you’ve got your eyes set on the top step of the podium. Fortunately, it comes in different engine sizes to suit different racing categories, and with a wide range of options to suit any type of rider. Fiberglass bodywork comes as standard, but full carbon is available if you really feel like spending your money, and there is no end to the amount of aftermarket options for the Ultima. Disc brakes come as standard – as you’d hope for that kind of money. Talking of which, the price listed here is a little old, and you can find these for much cheaper but if you’re looking for the official MSRP, you’re looking at it.

If you are not into replacing cars every so often, you should definitely check out this list of longest lasting vehicles. Thanks to a massive study, we gained fantastic insight into the world of used cars. We list here 20 of the longest lasting cars as identified by an analysis which included 13 million cars. In short, they researched all the cars that changed hands in 2016 which were produced from 1981 and have at least 200,000 miles on the odometer.

American trucks dominate the list. Although the research was concluded ten months ago, it is still very much credible.

200,000 miles may seem like quite a feat, and may leave some of you scratching your heads as to why the bar has been set so high. Before the days of planned obsolescence, however, any car worth it’s salt should be more than capable of handling that mileage with ease.

  1. Chevrolet Impala

iSeeCars reported that Chevrolet Impalas are rather durable machines, many of which had more than 200,000 miles on the odometer when changing hands. While we do not have the exact number of sold used Impalas in 2016 or in 2017, we do know that 1.5 percent of all had more than 200,000 miles on the odometer. Obviously, opting for a low-mileage car could give you access to reliable and relatively cheap transportation. Stay away from the 2010 Chevrolet Impala though. At least if you believe Consumer Reports assessment more than your local mechanic.

While it is far, far away from anything thrilling, the Toyota Camry may be the epitome of simple and reliable A to B transportation. No wonder it reached this list of the 20 longest lasting cars. Modern iterations of the Toyota Camry are so US-centered that they became one of the most popular cars on the American market. It did so despite the fact that the production of the Camry is actually cheaper in Japan than in the US.

To support the claim, we can say that Consumer Reports never listed the Nissan Maxima on the list of cars to avoid. Also, 2012 and 2014 Nissan Maxima cars seem to be the best.

Research revealed that as much as 1.6 percent of all used Cadillac Escalade cars that changed hands in 2016 had more than 200,000 miles on the odometer. As these full-size SUVs are usually parts of massive car fleets, we are not surprised to find out that many of them covered these distances. Nevertheless, while some suggest newer models aren’t as astute as older cars, it seems that buying the Cadillac Escalade can actually be reasonable.

Another sedan. This is the Ford Taurus – a car known for its longevity. Interestingly enough, 1.9 percent of all used Taurus cars sold in 2016 had more than 200,000 miles on the odometer. As iSeeCars suggests, that is double the standard purchase rate of sedans that covered 200,000+ miles. The Ford Taurus is available across seven generations, though the older models are likely to be the most reliable.

Similar to the Cadillac Escalade, the Lincoln Navigator is yet another luxury SUV capable of covering hundreds of thousands of miles and still being in an appealing condition. 2 percent of all Lincoln Navigators sold actually covered more than 200,000 miles. The Navigator is the best-positioned luxury vehicle on this list. Heck, twice as many Navigators with more than 200,000 miles switched hands compared with the closest Mercedes (who couldn’t cut it on the list).

Although the Ford F-150 is the best selling new truck, the Chevrolet Silverado actually had the highest percentage of pickups that passed 200,000 miles. It is the best placed big pick up truck on the list.

Nevertheless, the GMC Yukon has been regarded as quite a reliable SUV by almost all drivers, journalists, owners, and mechanics. This especially goes for models produced from 2011 to 2013.

No wonder the Tahoe is really close to the Yukon on the list. Actually, it is in between the Yukon and the Yukon XL. These three are basically the same cars with only superficial differences. Nevertheless, 3.5 percent of Tahoe buyers actually opted for a unit that covered more than 200,000 miles.

Again, we have a GM gem here – the GMC Yukon XL. Basically the third iteration of the same architecture underpinning the Tahoe and the Yukon. Although it is not exactly a beauty, GMC Yukon XL buyers actually pick high-mileage units more than is the case with the Tahoe and the Yukon. 4.2 percent of all models sold, in fact, had more than 200,000 miles on the odometer. As it is the case with its GM brothers, the best models to choose from were produced from 2011 to 2013.

This is not the last Toyota on the list. Let me just say that.
The 4Runner is like a perfect off-roader. It goes far without any issues whatsoever which is witnessed by a reliability score of “well above average” in almost every Consumer Reports research ever done. As for the people buying used ones, as much as 4.7 percent of them actually bought one with more than 200,000 miles on the clock.

The GMC Yukon XL, the Chevy Tahoe, and the Cadillac Escalade hav e another brother on this list. It is the Chevrolet Suburban. As it is cheaper compared with the Escalade, buyers are actually quite content choosing units with higher mileage. As much as 4.8 percent of buyers opted for models with 200,000+ miles on the odometer.

Finally, the last (and fifth) Toyota on the list. This car is so well built and bulletproof overall that buyers do k now they are not getting themselves into trouble if they buy a high-mileage model. In fact, 5.6 percent of buyers did choose a high-mileage model in 2016.

Although it may come as a surprise, the Ford Expedition actually rules this list. As a full-size SUV based on top of the F-150 underpinnings, the Ford Expedition is a proper workhorse.

“Super-sized SUVs such as the Ford Expedition…are often workhorses for families,” said Ly. “For those parents who don’t want to drive a minivan, these vehicles transport the kids from one activity to the next.”

As much as 5.7 percent of buyers opt for high-mileage models with many of them praising models from 2011 and earlier and newer models from 2014 and 2015.

10 Classic Cars Americans Love the Most


What classic cars do Americans love? The question is a sound one and we have an answer. Actually, we have ten answers as Hemmings, a classic car authority, compiled a list of classic cars Americans love the most. Apparently, Hemmings analyzed all classified ads they had since 2010 and the results are in.

Yes, the Corvette. It is America’s most beloved classic car. Surprised? Well, don’t be. After all, in an adventure called the Corvette history, GM crafted a variety of different versions definitely picking the brain of all drivers.

  • Superfast ones? Check (Z06, ZR1)
  • Beautiful ones? Check (I think it is the 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe but you don&rsq uo;t have to take my word for it)
  • Advanced ones? Check (well, C6 and C7)

The Corvette is one of only a handful of sports cars that survived for several generations and for more than six decades. That said, Hemmings found that the Chevrolet Corvette was the most sought-after classic car in 40 states.

Ford Mustang

This one isn’t much of a surprise either. In production since March 1964, the Ford Mustang successfully lived through six generations to date. The car revitalized the American dream, enticed the development and production of some of the best muscle cars America has ever seen and became a household name synonymous with muscle cars. As Hemmings reported, high survival rate made the Ford Mustang an awesome car for early car collectors. No wonder it became the classic car to have in six states.



While it does look rather unremarkable, the MG TD is one of the most important cars that ever set its wheels on American soil. Becoming popular with American soldiers in Europe after WW2, who then importe d them back to the US, the MG TD was the first proper sports car which popularized sports car craze in our country. Sure, there aren’t many of them on the streets right now, but it seems that everyone wants one. Hemmings reported that this classic car is the most popular in Wyoming. Arguably, this was the car inspiring American engineers and business moguls to develop and produce cars such as the Mustang and the Corvette. Although the Corvette and the Mustang are properly fast, the MG TD, produced from 1936 to 1955 in four or five different versions, wasn’t. Actually, with 50-something hp engines, the Midget needed more than 20 seconds to reach 60 mph.

As some of the older Ford Thunderbirds are rather rationally valued and straight cheap, this car has been known to be a perfect classic car for all the gearheads of today. However, the first generation is where the gold is. With just over 53,000 units produced, classic retro styling and fifties luxury amenities inside, the 1955-1957 Ford Thunderbird proved to be quite a looker.

Some even say that the Ford Thunderbird was the one to start all that luxury car era. Interestingly enough, the T-bird had the same wheelbase as the Corvette of the time although Ford noted it was not a sports car, but a luxury personal vehicle.

This one is arguably the most important Chevrolet model of all time. More or less, it launched the Chevrolet name into the stardom of coolness. With a comprehensive lineup of cars and a Bel-Air sitting at the top of it all, it was only logical for it to introduce new tech to the market. In this case, the Bel-Air brought in the famed, indestructible Small Block Chevy V8.

Hemmings did comprehensive research regarding the model and the results are quite curious. The Bel-Air proved to be the most sought-after classic car in Alabama. Today, the “Tri-Five” models produced from 1955 to 1957 are the most valuable with prices of more than $100,000.

Although highly praised, the Porsche 911 is not among the top five classic cars Americans love. It is sixth. Lately, the cars – especially earlier editions – skyrocketed in value. For the last five years or so, the value of pre-nineties models tripled. As Hemmings analyzed, only a decade ago one could find a classic pre-1989 Porsche 911 in a not-so-perfect condition in th e $10,000 range. Now, even the most fatigued models are selling for $30,000+.

The car is still in high demand in Washington and in California. Of course, only if we factor out the Corvette and the Ford Mustang from the equation.

Ford Model A

Although produced for just over four years, Ford production lines churned out 4,858,644 units of the Model A. As a major improvement over the Model T, the Ford Model A took mass-production to next level integrating brakes at all four wheels, some rudimentary safety systems and an engine making the car powerful enough to reach 65 mph.

As it turns out, the Ford Model A is very much in high regard with classic car lovers. Hemmings did report the Ford Model A is one of the classic car stars in Oregon, Nevada, and New England.

The Pontiac Trans Am is definitely one of the most iconic American cars of all time. In production from 1969 to 2002, the Trans Am shaped a whole class of sports car lovers which had had enough with all that muscle car craze and Corvettes. Sure, the Trans Am was a muscle car on its own, but not in the same terms as the Charger, the Camaro, or even the Mustang were. Obviously, the plan worked, as the car is now considered amongst the classic cars Americans love. Interestingly enough, Hemmings report the Pontiac Trans Am is most popula r in Washington DC.

The Ford Mustang may be second on this list, but the Camaro seems to be an icon of the same competence. This iconic muscle car definitely influenced car culture in the US as only a handful of other cars. Now, it is a part of the Hemmings list of classic cars Americans love. As it turns out, the Camaro is a favorite muscle car in eight states.

Finally! An SUV. Ok, not exactly an SUV but the first gen Ford Bronco – a serious off-roader with rather appealing looks. Previously, we did publish a list of classic cars millennials and Generation X drivers value the most. Trucks and SUVs dominated. On this list, however, only the Ford Bronco managed to hop in. Check out 10 Illegal Car Modifications Banned In Some States


Think before you modify. Not only about what you want to do with your car, but what you are allowed to do. Car modification can be a whole lot of fun, but a whole lot of illegal as well. Depending in which state you tend to drive of course.

I compiled a list of illegal car modificat ions banned in some states. With ten entries you may find that making a modded car does not have to be all cool and dandy, but dangerous and illegal as well.

Some states do not allow dark window tints, others high-lifts and neon lights, while some does not even allow exhaust mods. Read the list before you start fiddling with your car.

Law on high-lifts is different from state to state. However, one thing is for sure, they exist and they precisely shape the aftermarket industry. For example, state of Florida and Ohio wouldn’t allow anything more than 22-inch lift for sedans or 26-inch lift for trucks. On the other hand, some states do not allow you to raise the bumper by more than a few inches. All this for safety reasons, of course.

Tinted windows are cool. That is a fact. But they are usually illegal as well. What is more, police officers in some states carry a special tool for measuring how much light passes through the windows to see whether owners are breaking the law. It is that serious. Every state has some law about dark window tint. For example, Illinois prohibits side and front window tint except when the driver has some kind of medical condition which requires tinted windows.

You want to be a secret agent and install an automatic license plate cover? You know, to place it over plates when doing something illegal – like driving really fast. Installing automatic license plate covers can actually get you arrested. Despite all the risk, some companies sell the kits online making it rather easy to install and use the system. Don’t do it though. Do not even partially cover the license plates or a ticket will be coming your way.

Don’t be this guy. Just don’t. Obviously, even the law prohibits it. While extremely loud car stereo systems just aren’t as popular as they once were, some states had to pass a law limiting the maximum decibel levels car stereo systems can produce. Cops are known to ticket drivers who overdo it. Most problems originated in local municipalities whose residents couldn’t stand booming systems. Fair enough.

Stanced cars are all the rage right now, we give you that. With airlift suspension systems, drivers can easily lower or raise their cars at a touch of a button. However, some states do have rigorous laws on car lowering. One cannot lower a vehicle more than 2 inches compared with the stock setting in Georgia. On the other hand, Califor nia and Arizona actually do not have any regulation regarding the issue. Lowered cars are a common sight there.

While radar detectors are common in passenger cars in every state (except Virginia where they are illegal to have), installing one in a commercial vehicle is a felony. Everywhere.

However, before installing a radar detector in your passenger car, first learn about local laws so you don’t place the detector where it obstructs vision.

California, Texas, and Minnesota outlawed the use of laser jammers. These $600-ish devices can apparently mess up laser guns used for measuring speeds of highway vehicles. Obviously, laser jammers are used by individuals who really do drive a lot and need to get there fast. Some of them are actually quite successful in laser gun jamming business.

It is OK to have an exhaust mod which improves the exhaust sound or even ups the power a tad. However, many of the exhaust mods alter emission levels. Of course, in the world of today, where “green” is the way to go, higher emissions will make it imp ossible for a car to pass the inspection. On the other hand, if you go for an overkill in the exhaust sound department you should prepare to pay some fines too.

Neon lights popularized in the Nineties and by early Fast and Furious movies most certainly fall under the kitsch category. However, some people like neon lights to this day. Some states, local municipalities, and cities did, in fact, outlaw neon lights – especially blue and red ones. The reason is a simple one – governing bodies do not want people to mix up police car lights with lights on cars with neon lights.

See, they can reflect lights from oncoming vehicles thus blinding the drivers. If turned off off-road lights can cause problems, actually using off-road lights on the highway is definitely something you do not want to do. Cover your row of lights.

Top 20 Cool Cars That Will Become Future Classics


New cool cars! They come in all shapes and sizes. As ever, some are deemed cooler than others and usually, the coolness factor is decided based on their street cred, looks, engine power, and heritage. We gathered 20 cool cars and trucks currently available for sale in the US. Some are mass-produced machines, other incredibly capable trucks and some are simply insane creat ions of the supercar world of today. All of them will most definitely be cool in the 2030s as well.

Ford F-150 Raptor

As the best selling vehicle in the US for ages, the most extreme modern version of the Ford F-150 is cool. Heck, more than cool. It’s the epitome of what an American truck is or can be. The latest 2018 Ford F-150 did not receive many changes compared with the 2017 Raptor. It only gained a somewhat changed rear end. That is besid e the point here as the car in question actually sports a twin-turbocharged V6 with 450 hp.

Channeling the power to all four wheels suspended on a really advanced off-road suspension, the car manages to do 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Super fast for a truck of this size. If you need a car for fast stints in the desert, this definitely is the one to pick. Can’t go madder. On the other hand, wide hips (its aluminum body has been widened) and massive size could make it a bit challenging to navigate the city streets.

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2

It is not as big, nor as stylistically impressive as the Ford Raptor, but the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2  is everything you want from a compact truck. Off-road gear which includes additional suspension upgrades, exterior off-road touches and the possibility of ordering it with the Duramax diesel engine, make the Colorado ZR2 as appealing as it gets.

Two versions available – one with the petrol V6 engine developing quite raspy 308hp and 275 lb-ft of torque and the 2.8-liter turbodiesel I-4 is with 191hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.

The petrol one is faster, but we need to be reasonable, I don’t see anyone taking the Colorado ZR2 on the drag strip. Smashing a massive tow trailer behind? Yes! For that, both versions have 5,000-pound towing capacity.

Modern hot rod? This may be it. As an Australian produced sedan with a massive V8 in front, the Chevrolet SS proved to be unlike any other machine available in the US. It was, in some sense, the flagship of Chevrolet American offering. Sure, it deserved to be called that thanks to its racing pedigree and, more import antly, really loud 6.3 liter V8 with 415hp and 405 lb-ft of torque.

Available only with a six-speed automatic transmission, the car is more than capable to justify the prospects of a super saloon. Unfortunately, in January 2017 Chevrolet decided to end the production of the SS. After all, they closed their Holden factories where the car was produced. Now, try to find one that is left in a dealership or zoom through the used car market.

Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ

Do not be mad at us for including this car on the list. After all, among 20 cool cars, a two-door front engined, RWD Japanese coupe is simply mandatory. If it exists of course. And, we are lucky it does. Toyota 86 or the Subaru BRZ (same cars), uses a two-liter naturally aspirated motor developing around 200hp (205 for the latest year).

More important than that, the 2018 Toyota 86 and the 2018 Subaru BRZ are fun. A lot of fun due to their low center of gravity, fine suspension setup and engaging driving characteristics. Apparently, it is really really easy to drift them. Expensive? Not really!

Ford Focus RS

Ever since Ken Block revealed this car drifting madly during the official presentation, the Ford Focus RS became an instant cool car. 2.3-liter EcoBoost, known from the Mustang EcoBoost, graces the engine bay with more than 350hp in its latest form. All the kinks and mashups were polished since its first appearance in 2015. Now, the 2018 Ford Focus RS comes with a limited slip differential (LSD), the RS2 Package (leather Recaro seats, voice-activated navigation and more), 19-inch premium forged alloy wheels, carbon fiber interior trim and a black roof.

Ram 2500 Power Wagon

Latest 2018 Ram 2500 Power Wagon may look much the same as before, but in reality, it became even cooler. Entering our 20 cool cars and trucks list is the latest version which was seriously improved by getting reinforced ladder frame chassis, a new five-link rear axle and rear coil springs, as well as full off-road equipment complementing 14.5 inches of clearance. Tires?

You simply cannot have a list of cool cars and trucks without the Japanese sweetheart. After all, it is the best selling Japanese sports car of all time – the MX-5. 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata takes the small RWD roadster idea to a whole another level with an extremely stiff chassis, fantastic RWD setup, manual transmission and two-liter naturally aspirated motor developing just a shy of 160hp. Plus, it looks kinda beautiful compared to the previous iterations.

Did I mention it is lighter – by a freaking 220 lbs compared with the model of before. While the bigger engine is the one you should aim for, Mazda offers a 1.5-liter 129hp motor for it as well. This is a cool car, no matter how truck-lowing you may be.

Nissan GT-R

Now, the Nissan GT-R R35 is not a new car. Heck, first 485hp versions of it had been revealed in 2007. More than 10 years ago. Nevertheless, sheer speed and street cred the Niss an GT-R R35 has gives the car that coolness factor that will definitely last long into 2030’s. Latest version – especially the Nissan GT-R Nismo – broke the 600hp mark and finally moved the Nissan GT-R into the scope of supercar world. With some suspension and aerodynamic updates, the Nissan GT-R Nismo is faster around the track as well.

Coolness factor, however, comes from the sheerly incredible quickness. The Nissan GT-R Nismo can catch 60mph in 2.7 seconds. This is almost hypercar quick. No wonder, this will be quick in 2030’s, 2040’s and 2050’s.

Corvette Grand Sport

This may well be the best version of the Corvette C7. Called the Corvette Grand Sport, this machine gives you a unique near race-car experience when pushed to the limit. It is a car which takes some of the hardware from a Corvette Z06 and uses it without the supercharged motor, but with a seven-speed manual transmission. This one has a rev-match capability!

Do I really have to explain why this is a cool car? Everything about it is over the top. Engine – V10 wit h more than 8 liters of capacity, rear wheels so wide (355/30 ZR19) they look like freaking rollers and that well-earned attitude of a widowmaker.

Although Dodge stopped the production, the last versions of the Viper sold like hotcakes. Now, you can find this cool car only in a dealership unsold car lot (not many) or on the used car markets.

Devastating 645hp power of the V10 engine was enough to make the Viper break 13 track records. Even on the tracks where it competed with the hypercar holy trinity.

Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro

While not as mechanically insane as the Ford Raptor, or even the Colorado ZR2, the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro proved to be quite an astonishing off-roading asset. With a powerful cult following it, I am inclined to include this famous car on the list of 20 cool cars and trucks.  Available only as a Double Cab Off-Road 4×4, the Tacoma TRD Pro mates 3.5-liter 278hp engine with an automatic transmission and a formidable amount of off-roading gear.

Sure, the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro had a five-speed manual option, but that was discontinued for the new model. 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, on the other hand, makes use of the Toyota Safety Sense-P. This introduces a number of active safety equipment for the car –  forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beams, and adaptive cruise control.

Cadillac ATS-V

Trying to outdo the likes of the Mercedes-AMG C63 and the BMW M3, Cadillac crafted an entry-level performance executive sedan. With a 3.6-liter turbocharged V6, fantastic Tremec 6-speed manual transmis sion and sports tuned suspension it really can compete with the Germans. Plus, admit it, it does not look that bad. It is sharp, modern, full of useful gadgets for today and if you aren’t exactly into changing gears yourself go for the 8 speed automatic. This all equals to what we call cool.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 may well be the most appealing Mustang of all time. Not only does it come with a hardcore track-focused suspension and driving equipment to match the best from Europe, but it also sports a fantastically loud 5.2-liter flat plane crank motor capable of delivering 520+hp. With 305/35ZR19 rear tires, this Shelby does not play any games. It can achieve what only a handful of other muscle cars can touch – it is more than track capable. It’s simply a furious pony car.

It will do 60 in 4.3 seconds which is not as mad as the Camaro ZL1 or the Hellcat, but this is a bit different kind of an animal altogether. Now, if the GT350 isn’t hardcore enough, one may go a step further – with the 2018 GT350R. This one does not have to have rear seats. But, believe us when we say the 20118 GT350 is cool enough.

Yeah, I just mentioned this gem in that article about the GT350. Now, the 2018 Camaro ZL1 shares similar track habits with its Shelby counterpart, but it drizzles it all with a 650hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8. You may have heard about th is engine before. It is the one from the freaking Corvette Z06. Featuring electronic limited-slip differential, six-speed manual transmission (yes, manual, but you can opt for the 10-speed automatic), the Camaro ZL1 is as incredible as modern muscle cars go.

You know what, I’d have it in black. All black, without any chrome touches and maybe a bit of carbon. A mean and devious looking car deserves it.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

No, no one can forget to include this one in a list of 20 cool cars and trucks. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat rewrote the rules of muscle cars. Actually, it returned the muscle car pedigree to where it had been in the Sixties. See, the whole idea of a muscle car is to be fairly affordable, relatively simple and supercar powerful. Enter the Hellcat! It is all of it then some.

And one can choose between a number of versions one of which is a Hellcat Widebody. Regardless of the version, drivers can enjoy a six-speed manual or rather advanced eight-speed automatic. While some did criticize its handling capabilities compared with the likes of Camaro and Mustang, the truth is that the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is best for the drag strips. Cool? Hell yea!

The first time US customers could buy a US version of the Honda Civic Type R was on June 14, 2017. Ye s, recently. For the US, Honda crafted possibly the greatest FWD car of our time.

Its two-liter turbocharged engine produces 310 hp, and sports 245/30 R20 high-performance tires. All the power and tire size isn’t in vain. See, chasing the record for the FWD production cars on the Nurburgring, the 2018 Honda Civic Type R managed to cover the track in 7:43.80 minutes. Seriously quick. Just to showcase how quick it is let me tell you that the Honda Civic Type R is faster than the mid-engine Audi R8 Coupé 5.2 FSI quattro from 2009.

Cool car? Obviously! Amazing actually.

Jaguar F-type

Not The Jaguar F-Type may be considered the perfect revitalization of the E-Type sporty character for the world of today. Although lacking some exotic engine placement or retro design, the Jaguar F-Type definitely is a proper contender for the Porsche 911. And Jaguar did a fantastic job nearing the car for all kinds of drivers.

Jaguar F-Type is available with a four-cylinder engine, six cylinder engine and eight-cylinder engine. All of them turbocharged. The power ranges from 300hp to 575hp (for the SVR). Depending on the version, one may order an AWD, manual transmission or automatic transmission and buyers can even opt for a mechanical limited-slip differential on the V6 S and an electronic limited-slip differential on the V8. Long awaited new generation of the Ford GT broke free earlier in 2017 with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. No V8 now. Apart from gaining a new engine, the car seems to have slightly changed the focus. Now, it is a lightweight supercar with super adva nced active aerodynamics and enough advanced tech to compete with the likes of modern Ferrari, McLaren and Lambo cars.

650hp machine propels the 2018 Ford GT to 216 mph. Acceleration? We are really not sure about the acceleration yet, but it is a safe bet, the Ford GT will do 60 in 3 seconds (or less).

While some didn’t like the fact that the new Ford GT lacks the classic V8 power plant under the rear hatch, this new EcoBoost is definitely equally impressive. It may not sound mad as a V8, but it has some serious power.

Mercedes-Benz G-class

It has been in production forever, but after numerous facelifts and re-engineering which made it accept the latest tech, the G-class still rocks hard. new model surfaced at the 2018 NAIAS, but the sheer spectacle the Gelandewagen still instills in anyone on the streets simply makes it a must on this list of 20 cool cars and trucks.

In the last few years, Mercedes unveiled a number of extraordinary G-class trucks including the 6×6, G5004x42, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet and others. Heck, it is available with the V12 after all. Can’t go further than that! Despite new G-class, the latest versions of the one originally designed almost 50 years ago will be gold for sure.

Ford Fiesta ST

The Ford Fiesta ST is the last entry on this list. It deserves to be called cool. The new model, only in Europe for now, went far to get the 1.5-liter three-cylinder with 197hp. The one which was available here for years uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with approximately the same power output (in latter versions that is).

Ford Teases the Upcoming 700 HP 2019 Mustang Shelby GT500 at Detroit Auto Show (Video)


The 2019 Mustang Shelby GT500 has been in a rumor mill for a while now. Ford still hasn’t disclosed any official info, but they’re definitely heading in that direction. They did, however, give us a little tease at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Over twitter no less. I n their words: “The legend returns in 2019. The most powerful street-legal production Ford ever with more than 700hp projected.”

Sadly, the animated video doesn’t really disclose much more than the above stated power rating. It’s evident that the upcoming 2019 Mustang Shelby GT500 will be offering an aggressive blacked-out aero kit. Likely more aggressive than that of the current Shelby GT350R. Dual five-spoke all black wheels with a Shelby serpent logo are also in the works. And so seems to be a carbon fiber hood insert and a huge wing that’ll likely be optional.

Blue Oval didn’t say where will these 700 plus horsepower come from, but a supercharged V8 is the only realistic option here. And it would seem they’ll use a 5.2L supercharged Voodoo V8 for that matter. Another rumor suggests the new GT500 should be able to top 200 mph with ease. 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Gets a Diesel I6 Engine and More Aluminum


The 2019 Silverado 1500 has already been presented last year, but that didn’t stop GM from showing it yet again at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This time, it comes with two surprising twists. One is the more widespread usage of aluminum which should shed some 450 pounds of its weight. The other is a new Duramax diesel inline six mill which finally rounds up the the full-size pickup truck diesel trilogy. All three major American half-ton trucks will now feature an optional diesel engine since Ford has also joined the oil-burning party.

Unlike the Ford F-150 which has been using full body aluminum structure for couple of years now, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado only comes with aluminum hood, doors and tailgate. Most of the truck is still made out of steel, though, with difference being in material’s grade. Bed is made out of roll-formed high-strength steel. Same as the floor pan, while rear side panels are made out of regular steel. Pillars and the rest of the safety cage, however, are all made out of advanced high-strength steel, as pictured below.

As mentioned above, GM has still managed to shed some 450 pounds off of the final product. Despite not going all-aluminum on us at that. The most important thing is that their use of mixed materials means the bed remains a fully steel affair. And you’ll likely remember how they’ve bashed Ford’s aluminum bed in one of their commercials from a while ago. And most buyers will surely find that power-operated tailgate handy.

But more surprising – and some would also say important upgrade – is the all-new 3.0L Duramax diesel inline six mill. Engine that will be tied to an also new 10-speed automatic transmission, and which should outperform its upcoming Ford F-150 diesel rival. Blue Oval’s half-tonner produces 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque, while likely returning up to 30 mpg on the highway. But that’s far from everything that GM has up its sleeve. They’ll also revamp the current V8 lineup consisting of 5.3L and 6.2L units. These will now feature an all-new fuel-saving technology that’s capable of turning off as much as seven cylinders. Precise specs, release date, and prices are yet to be disclosed.

The American car industry has given us some of the most iconic nameplates in the world of cars. Classic muscle cars that are slowly becoming extinct, others that people never truly got the chance to appreciate, and even cars that changed the auto industry are all American made. Some of these were great rides which ultimately failed to leave their mark on histo ry. Others became legendary vehicles synonymous with the American car industry. This time we’re reflecting on 15 such legendary cars. Famous American cars that define the U.S. Iconic models that represent what this country is all about – opportunity, freedom, and technological advancement. Opportunity for any vehicle or manufacturer to succeed with sufficient product quality and appeal. Freedom that can only be felt in a powerful large American car on an open road. Technological advancement that’s put American automakers back on the map in recent years. These are the top fifteen most iconic American cars.

1908 – 1927 Ford Model T

It’s a no-brainer, really. If the Ford Model T doesn’t represent everything the American car industry stands for, then I don’t know what early 20th century cars does! It wasn’t the first car ever produced. It wasn’t even the first mass -produced American car since that honor belongs to the Oldsmobile Curved Dash. However, the Tin Lizzie did become the first affordable car in the process that Henry Ford had envisioned. Thus the Ford Model T finally brought the automobile to the masses and enabled every average Joe to own one.

When Henry Ford’s most important creation started its two-decade-long journey, it was only around 20% more affordable than the average car of the time. With an increase in production volume though, that percentage grew with each passing year. By the time 1927 had arrived, Ford had sold more than 15 million Model T’s in as many body styles as you can imagine – including pickups. Contrary to popular belief, early models came in four different colors: red, green, blue, and gray. It was only in 1914 that Ford had adopted the all-black paint policy. To this dye, the Ford Model T remains arguably the most influential car ever produced.

1928 – 1937 Duesenberg Model J

This luxury American car might have come at a wrong time, but it still fulfilled all expectations. Introduced just before the onset of the Great Depression, the Model J’s price of at least $13,500 (more than $190,000 in 2017 dollars) didn’t go in its favor. Despite the exorbitant price tag, the Model J was dubbed the finest car on sale and was still coveted by many. A list of notable Duesenberg Model J owners included the likes of Clark Gable, Al Capone, Greta Garbo, and a number of prominent European royalty of the time. The fact they all chose it over Rolls Royces, Bugattis, Maybachs and other rivals speaks volumes in the American luxury icon’s favor.

The status symbol of the time was powered by a 420 cu-in. straight-eight engine. A naturally aspirated 265-horsepower motor was available at first while a supercharged 320-horsepower mill became available in 1932. The supercharged Duesenberg Model SJ was easily distinguishable by its chrome external exhaust pipes, although owners of conventional models were also given the opportunity to order them. The Model J wasn’t only the most luxurious, but also the most powerful American car prior to World War II. The fact it had easily beaten its more illustrious rivals makes it one of the most iconic American cars and certainly one of the most recognizable automotive linchpins of the late Art Deco era.

1935 – Present Chevrolet Suburban

One glance at the Chevy Suburban’s uninterrupted production cycle tells all you need to know about this SUV’s iconic status. What started out as a station wagon built on a half-ton truck’s frame is now a three-row SUV with similar, yet contemporary underpinnings. The (Carryall) Suburban, of course, went through numerous revisions over the course of the 80-odd years it’s been on the market. It’s only fitting that one of the sport utility vehicle’s earliest predecessors is also one of the last long-wheelbase body-on-frame SUVs currently available.

The Chevrolet Suburban would remain one of the most prominent people carriers until the 1980s when a revolution was caused by the introduction of the minivan (more on that later). The fact that it’s the longest-running nameplate (active or inactive) in the auto industry speaks volumes about the usefulness and practicality of the vehicle. It clearly supports the Chevy Suburban’s claim for being one of America’s defining vehicles.

1941 – 1945 Willys-Overland MB

As Dwight D. Eisenhower said, the Willys-Overland MB was largely responsible for helping Allied forces achieve victory in Word War II. The quarter-ton all-wheel-drive rugged vehicle is widely considered to be the very first SUV ever produced. Willys-Overland produced around 360,000 of them during the war to be used in mud, desert sands, and frozen tundras alike, and they never complained.

Despite the end of their production coinciding with the end of the WWII, MBs weren’t done in 1945 – not by a long shot. Willys MB would instantly spawn its own civilian clone; the famous Jeep CJ which soldiered on until 1986. In fact, its spirit still lives inside the Jeep Wrangler which simply continued where its predecessor had left off. The seminal SUV has helped the USA (and the rest of the free world) become what it is today. Whether we like what we’ve become or not, our lives would have surely been much more gloomy hadn’t there been for the go-anywhere Jeep’s heroics.

1948 – Present Ford F-Series

The best-sold American vehicle of all time has a cemented spot on any Famous American cars and vehicles list. This favorite American pickup truck has been around since 1948 and has gone through no fewer than 13 generations. Over the course of 70 years, it’s brought the Blue Oval nothing but success, renown, and financial stability (not counting the occasional recall). They’ve sold over 35 million F-Series trucks during that time.

It wasn’t the first or even the most iconic of American trucks, but buyers have made their voices heard. With F-Series sales surging towards 900,000 units a year, the Ford F-150 and its siblings can definitely be considered defining parts of American culture. They’re all around us and they aren’t showing any signs of stopping. To the contrary, the F-Series will likely remain the best-sold American vehicle for the foreseeable future.

1949 – 1953 Oldsmobile Rocket 88

The Oldsmobile Rocket 88 is widely regarded to be the first muscle car in history. Muscle cars define a large chunk of American automotive history, and this huge segment of the automotive market can trace its inception to this car. The idea was simple back then – take a small, light car and stuff as much power into as humanly possible. Oldsmobile stuffed, at the time, the new overhead valve Rocket V8 engine inside the smaller Eighty-Eight body. The 303 cu-in. Rocket V8 developed only 135 hp and 283 lb-ft of torque. Still, it didn’t take more than that back in the day.

The Oldsmobile Rocket 88 quickly became the dominant force on NASCAR circuits. It changed Oldsmobile’s perception in the general population’s eyes overnight. From a conservative automaker to an inspiring b eacon of innovation; Oldsmobile had it all. The Rocket 88 became so popular, in fact, that it actually spawned what’s regarded to be the very first rock and roll song named after the car itself. The song was recorded by Ike Turner and his band in 1951. The Oldsmobile 88 nameplate would survive until 1999, but Rocket 88 itself would lose its prominence by the mid-fifties. Other manufacturers simply beat Oldsmobile at their own game. Still, the Rocket 88’s influence on both the muscle car scene and the American auto industry as a whole was immeasurable.

1949 – 1975 Chevrolet Bel Air

The Chevy Bel Air is the most prominent of the revolutionary Tri-Five quarte t which, apart from itself, consisted of the 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevy Nomad, 150 and 210. Despite gaining a cult following during its Tri-Five years, the Bel Air’s story neither begins nor ends there. The full-size Chevy strutted its stuff for 25 years in the U.S. and additional 5 in Canada.

Early Bel Airs were limited to convertible-styled two-door hardtop bodies with solid, non-detachable roofs. Coupe, sedan, and convertible models followed in 1953, and the station wagon arrived a year later. As mentioned above, the Tri-Five era ensued shortly thereafter. The Bel Air revolutionized the market overnight thanks to its dashing and dazzling new styling. Finned 1958 models would keep some of that flair, but subsequent generations would never replicate their success. Sales would remain steady, but the stylistic impact of the Tri-Five era would never again be matched by any other Chevrolet. Nor by any other manufacturer, for that matter. After all, Early Bel Airs are still some of the most beautifully styled cars to have ever graced this Earth.

1952 – 2002 Cadillac Eldorado

The Cold War was heating up, rock and roll was starting to emerge, and days of Olympian American luxury automakers like Duesenberg, Pierce-Arrow, and Cord were long gone. The U.S. economy was mostly recovered by then, however, and more and more car buyers were ready to spend money on something more refined than what concurrent American carmakers had to offer. Enter the Cadillac Eldorado; a personal luxury car that would spawn a segment of its own.

The Eldorado would later be joined by the Lincoln Mark Series, B uick Riviera, Chrysler Imperial, and Oldsmobile Toronado. It would also survive for longer than any of them by making it to the golden anniversary in 2002. The specialty luxury coupe always offered the most comfortable ride, the most advanced features, and the utmost level of luxury for an American car. It practically pointed the way in all three of these segments for the U.S. car industry. Despite being gone for a while now, the Cadillac Eldorado will remain one of the famous American cars that always pushed the industry to its limits.

1953 – Present Chevrolet Corvette

The most famous of American sports cars hadn’t only brought immense success to the GM. It had also put the U.S. on the sports car automaker’s map when it came out. And it’s been doing the same for almost 65 years now. The good old ‘Vette is still one of the most coveted and illustrious V8-powered sports cars out there and isn’t showing any signs of stopping. Especially not since its most powerful iteration in history, the new 2018 Corvette ZR1, was recently revealed.

But the Chevrolet Corvette isn’t only one of the best sports cars money can buy. It’s also the longest-running sports car in the world, predating the prized Mercedes-Benz Gullwing 300SL by a year and world-renowned Porsch e 911 by a decade. No wonder the ‘Vette earns its place among the most famous American cars. It’s been delivering sports car performance and sublime driving dynamics for more than six decades. And it’s been doing it the American way.

1957 – Present Chevrolet Impala

Excuse us for going too heavy with the Chevy, but can you imagine the good ole USA without a full-blooded affordable full-size car? Neither can I. They’ve been the essence of the American car industry for decades and the Chevrolet Impala is arguably the first among equals when it comes to them. The Impala has had its ups and downs over the years, including a 10 year hiatus between ’85 and &r squo;94, but it’s weathered all storms and come back as good as it ever was.

Beginning its journey as the Bel Air’s top-level trim for the 1958 model year, the Impala has always dictated the standards for comfort and value. It became a separate model within a year of its initial launch, and has remained one ever since. It’s historically been one of the best-selling full-sizers in the U.S. and an undeniable trendsetter at the same time. A true American family car with a hint of luxury and class.

1964 – 1969 Ford GT40

The iconic Ferrari fighter was never intended as a mass production sports car, but it still managed to leave a la sting impression on both the American car industry and the world of automotive racing as we know it. And it didn’t do it by simply winning. The Ford GT40 has done it by dominating high-performance endurance racing – winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans for four consecutive times between 1966 and 1969, and recording a one-two-three full-house podium finish in 1966.

We all know the story behind it. The GT40 was born out of Henry Ford II’s fury. When Enzo Ferrari pulled out of the deal that would secure Ford’s takeover of the Italian company (for which Ford had already spent a considerable amount of money), Henry Ford II called for a vendetta. His engineers would build him a superior car that would go on to humiliate Ferrari – on European soil, no less. The Ford GT40 showcases what American automotive masterminds and manufacturers in general are capable of achieving when setting their minds to it. Although the ‘Vette would take over from then on, the GT40’s mission was successfully completed. It has earned its status among the icons of American automotive engineering.

1964 – Present Ford Mustang

Alongside Corvette, the iconic pony is arguably the first synonym that comes to mind when non-Americans hear the words: “American car” (sorry Camaro fans). It’s just the way things have worked out. And no one can say that this doesn’t make any sense. Synonymous with V8 power and the muscle car scene (despite being a pony), the Ford Mustang certainly fits the bill.

The Ford Mustang has also had an uninterrupted production cycle spanning more than five decad es of automotive engineering now. Its name and badging also feed directly into classic American lore – a powerful indomitable mustang that rides across the plains and into the sunset. And the Mustang has been doing just that for more than 50 years from days of the early Shelby’s, Mach 1, and Boss 429, over SVT Cobras, to the modern day Shelby GT350. That’s why it’s one of the most iconic American cars ever produced.

1987 Buick GNX

Arguably the most badass muscle car ever produced, the “Grand National Experimental” represents the American car industry in more than one way. It’s not just a powerful and menacing velvet hammer, but a car that’s singl ehandedly brought the muscle car scene back from the grave. Although, some people likely won’t acknowledge the fact that the GNX actually was a muscle car. Even the sternest proponents of that cause, however, can’t deny the role it’s had in resurrecting the muscle car scene.

The Buick GNX was introduced during the Regal Grand National’s ultimate G-Body year. It was a result of a Buick/McLaren Performance Technologies/ASC collaboration and only 547 of them were produced. All were painted black and officially packed 276 horsepower thanks to revised Buick 3.8L turbocharged V6 engines. In truth, they made more like 300 horsepower, and the MSRP of $29,900 was never really a factor. Numerous dealers bumped their stickers to as much as $75,000 at dealer-only auctions.

1983 – 2007 Dodge Caravan

Chrysler minivans changed the way car buyers think, and for that, they’ve earned their spot among the most iconic American vehicles. They replaced the outdated yet beloved station wagons as more practical people carriers with the perfect combination of driving dynamics and available space for both passengers and cargo. They became the epitome of a family vehicle overnight and the Dodge Caravan was the first among equals. Together with its stablemate the Plymouth Voyager.

It was devised by Lee Iacocca and Hal Sperlich who had actually been holding onto the idea for quite some time. While they were both still with Ford, to be more precise. 10 years after Henry Ford II had scrapped their initial prototype, they sold the idea to Chrysler. The rest is, as they say, history. Whil e the Dodge Caravan has been gone for over a decade now, the long wheelbase Grand Caravan that’s debuted three years after the original is still among us. And so are many other minivans out there, despite being heavily under fire by larger SUVs and crossovers with three rows of seats.

1992 – 2017 Dodge Viper

America has been limited to a single potent sports car for far too long. At least that’s what gentlemen from the Chrysler Corporation were thinking back in the late eighties. Hence, they decided to give us a choice from then on. Enter the Dodge Viper – a venomous serpent with an odd-firing V10 powerplant under its hood. 8.0L at first, 8.3L between 2002 and 2006, an d 8.4L until Viper’s discontinuation in 2017.

The Dodge Viper obviously wasn’t your run-of-the-mill sports car. People don’t call it serpent for nothing. Early models were, in true fashion of the American car industry, almost too much to handle. Especially for inexperienced drivers. It was as if the car was actually plotting to kill its owner. But boy were they fun in the hands of capable drivers! When Viper finally bowed out and left the game, the most powerful models were generating as much as 645 horsepower and were capable of topping 204 mph.

2012 – Present Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S is a perfect example of the American car industry’s leading role in the global field of automotive innovation and evolution. It’s only a matter of time before electric vehicles become a majority on our roads, and Tesla, Inc. will almost surely be leading the vanguard of that change. Even now, they’re breaking all sorts of records most car enthusiasts thought were out of EV’s reach.

The Tesla Model S’ importance is monumental. Not only is the electric vehicle with the longest range working on furthering the conventional EV car cause, but almost every manufacturer has joined the party. Moreover, more and more supercars are also getting electric powertrains. In other words, the Tesla Model S is slowly but steadily becoming an inspiration for the entire car industry. Ducati used to claim that the Panigale R had 205 hp on tap, but thanks to new European testing rules, Ducati have rounded that down to 196 hp. Now, if you’ve already gone through the motions of buying yourself the top-shelf F4 RC, then you’re almost certainly going to take advantage of the optional exhaust kit that comes with it, right? With the kit fitted, the RC boasts a pretty spectacular 212 hp. The power figures are good but the weight is even better. Next up, we’ve got the bigger Ducati 1299 Panigale R– in Final Edition trim. Unlike this motorcycle’s forbears, the “R” designation is a bit of a lie, because it’s not a race homologation special like the “R” named units from before. Being 1285cc, it’s not race legal, but it is road legal providing it’s wearing the right pipe. It might not be race legal but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t pack an insanely powerful pu nch. As the last of the “big” twin cylinder Panigales, the Final Edition is understandably powerful. Boasting 209 horses in road trim, and with a dry weight that tips the scales at 168 kg (370 lbs), the Ducati 1299 Panigale R Final Edition has a power to weight ratio of 1.244 hp per kilo.

#07. The Honda RC213V-S: 1.343hp/kg

The Honda RC213V-S is the rogue entry on the list. You see, while we all wouldn’t mind owning Honda’s customer version of its race-bred RC213V MotoGP racer, the truth is that it’s a little bit underpowered. If you’re lucky enough to own a stock RC213V-S then you’ll know that it only produces 159 hp. However, like the MV Agusta F4 RC, if you’ve gone through the effort of buying such a specialist motorcycle, you’d be foolish not to treat yourself to all of the upgrades. Honda offers a Sports Kit for the RC213V-S which allows it to produce a rather more intimidating 215 hp, whilst cutting the weight down by 10 kg in the process, giving it a final dry weight of 160 kg (353 lbs). In total, that gives the Honda RC213V-S a power to weight ratio of 1.343 horses per kilo. Which is much more appropriate considering the cost of the thing.

#06. The Ducati 1199 Superleggera: 1.344hp/kg

And now the first of two Ducati Superleggeras. Yeah, this one is the older Superleggera but while it’s not dripping in carbon fiber and comes with a smaller 1199 engine, it’s still insanely impressive in terms of performance. If we give the 1199 Superleggera the benefit of its awesome track-only exhaust system, the lightweight Italian produces a peak power figure of 205 horsepower. Despite not boasting the latest in ca rbon fiber technology, the 1199 Superleggera still weighs in at a svelte 152.5kg (336 lbs) thanks to the liberal use of magnesium employed in its frame construction. With 205 hp available and weight of only 152.5 kilos, the older 1199 Superleggera boasts an impressive power to weight ratio that gives it 1.344 horsepower for every kilo it weighs. Slightly better than the ludicrously expensive Honda listed above – only a minor victory in the power to weight department, but it absolutely destroys the Honda in terms of bang for buck.

#05. The Ducati 1299 Superleggera: 1.447hp/kg

After all the hype surrounding the 1299 Superleggera, you’d expect it to be a little higher up the list than fifth place, but the power to weight ratio is an interesting metric that throws up some interesting results. That being said, the most recent super-light from Bologna, the Ducati 1299 Superleggera is an absolute masterpiece and scoring fifth is no bad thing. It’s superior to the last Superleggera in almost every way. Boasting a n all-carbon frame with matching wheels and a swingarm that comes powered by a beautifully tuned 1285cc Superquadro v-twin, the 1299 Superleggera is the pinnacle of Ducati technology that you can currently buy. If we put it in full race trim with a race-only exhaust, the 1299 Superleggera is good for 220 horses and weighs in at a svelte 152 kg (335 lbs). It can weigh much less, but there are too many variables to play with, because you can remove this and that, and shave weight all over the place. But let’s go with the official line. That gives the Ducati 1299 Superleggera a power to weight ratio of 1.447 horses per kilo. Imagine if it had a Desmosedici Stradale V4 engine in it instead though!

#04: The BMW HP4 Race: 1.473hp/kg

What made the new Ducati Superleggera so amazing was the fact that it had an immediate rival: the BMW HP4 Race. The HP4 Race isn’t like a lot of the bikes on this list. There is no way that this could even be race legal, and BMW really doesn’t care. This is a track only machine that comes dripping in carbon fiber, which allows this German beast to weigh in at a paltry 146 kg (321 lbs). In fact, I have had the pleasure of lifting an entire BMW HP4 Race frame at the Sepang MotoGP last year, and I would’ve stolen it if it wasn’t tethered down – because it is that light. Couple that lightweight (and true anecdote) with the HP4 Race’s 212 hp, and you’ve got a power to weight ratio made in heaven. In fact, the stat is 1.474 hp for every HP4 Race kilo. Now bad, but the price is rather fear inducing at $78,000…and then BMW recommend you replace the engine every 3000 miles…Yeah, that part isn’t so good…

#03: The Aprilia RSV4 FW-GP: 1.515hp/kg

For many, this could be seen as a controversial entry. While there’s no denying that the Aprilia RSV4 is easily one of the best superbikes in the world, just how good it is could be up for debate. The model in question here is the top-tier Aprilia RSV4 FW-GP, and if you remember correctly Aprilia gave these babies a factory guarantee of at least 250 hp. These insane track-only motorcycles are basically watered down MotoGP machines, so the 250 horses claim is legit. It’s the weight that leaves us guessing though. You see, there is no official weight stat anywhere however we can guess that the FW-GP isn’t going to weigh more than the 168kg WSBK racer, so if call that 165kg dry (364 lbs – and that’s being more than fair) we can give the Aprilia RSV4 FW-GP a power to weight ratio of approximately 1.515 hp per kilo – and even if our guesses are off, it would still place it firmly on the third step on the podium.

#02. The Suter MMX: 1.535hp/kg

This another renegade entry. While it has a tiny production run, this absolutely stunning 576cc two-stroke V4 masterpiece from Suter is definitely list-worthy. Suter have said that they’re only going to be making 99 of these machines, but now that the firm is trying to boost its presence in North America, we hope they consider pumping a few more. Why? Well, this 576cc two-stroke is capable of shooting out an incredible 195 hp. That might not be much when compared with the rest of the bikes on the list, when you learn that it has a dry weight of only 127 kg dry (280 lbs – yep!) you can start to get an idea of why we call this a masterpiece. All in, if you do the math, then the legendary Suter MMX has a power to weight ratio of 1.535 horses for every kilo. The only real downside of t he Suter MMX is the small production run and the intimidating $124,500 price tag…

#01. The Kawasaki H2R: 1.663hp/kg

And of course, there could only be one winner, couldn’t there? While anything given the Kawasaki H2 designation is awesome, it’s the H2R only that makes this list – the regular H2 doesn’t even come close, and the H2 SX is probably further away than that. However, the track-only Kawasaki flagship machine comes in first. There are two ways of looking at the H2R, and both put it at number one. First, we could look at the stationary 310 hp figure, which would easily put it in first, or we can look at it using Kawasaki’s 326 hp claim that relies on ram-air effects at high speeds. 326 hp sounds more attractive, so we’re going with that. But what about weight? Kawasaki only give curb figures (216 kg/476 lbs) so if we deduct a good fuel weight of 20 or so kilos, that would put it in the 196 kg ball park (or 432 lbs). That would leave the Kawasaki H2R with a stellar power to weight ratio of 1.663 hp per kilo, and firmly in the numbe r one position.
